Monday PM Class NOVEMBER
In this course we will focus on the marriage of words + imagery, learn how to keep a visual journal, and use watercolor and other water-based (as well as dry) materials to add color to our pages (optional). I’ve been keeping a visual journal for 30 years and it has helped me process my feelings, better understand the world around me, and keeps me inspired to make art part of my daily practice. I can’t wait to share my love of this process with you!
To get warmed up, each class will start with multiple prompts and demonstrations that you can participate in. We will then have a final prompt and everyone will get to make a piece of their own during that time with the techniques learned during class. Sharing at the end is optional.
This class is suited well for all including beginners, professional artists and everyone in between. It will be a nurturing space that inspires the student to move towards their creative edge.
This is an adult course, but teens are welcome to participate as well. Children under 13 may accompany an adult taking the course
COST: By Donation (students have been paying anywhere from $5 – $50 per class which comes out to $20-$200 for the whole course. Please pay what matches your financial means and needs. No on turned away due to lack of funds.
DATES: We will meet 4 MONDAYS; November 9, 16, 23, 30, 5pm-7pm Pacific Time
Each class will be recorded that day and the link to view it will be sent along with the notes from the class each week. Recorded classes are only available to those who register for the class so we can keep a safe and nurturing space for those to express themselves.
SUPPLIES: PLEASE BRING THE ART SUPPLIES for the MEDIUM YOU WOULD LIKE TO WORK WITH DURING THIS COURSE.
The only materials I will suggest are a black pen or pens of your choice to write with – it needs to be permanent if you want to add color that is water-based. The pens I love best are:
Micron Pigma (set of 6 different size nibs)
set of 8:
Black Sharpies are fun too, but they bleed through the page.
A Journal: (any journal or notebook that has mixed media or watercolor paper) If you are just going to use pen with no color, you don’t need it to have thick paper.
Some suggestions can be Watercolor, Color Pencil, Inktense Pencils, Watercolor pencils, Inks, Oil Pastels, Water Based Oil pastels, Collage or anything else you would like to play with! You can also choose to work with multiple media.
if you want to keep it simple, you could just purchase a travel watercolor palette:
or travel Inktense paint set:
HERE ARE SOME MORE OF MY FAVORITE:
Inktense pencils (Watercolor pencils that turn to permanent ink)
Woodless watercolor pencils (or any kind of water based pencils)
Tombow Brush Markers (or any kind of marker- these are water based)
Portfolio pastels (or any kind of pastels these are water-based)
Neocolor 2 pastels (THESE ARE MY FAVORITE and are waterbased so they turn to paint when you add water!) Make sure you order the ones that say #2 if you want water soluble ones!
Colored pencils (any kind/brand will do – these are waxed based):
